Circulation Policies


CUNY's current library borrowing/circulation policies can be found at https://www.cuny.edu/about/administration/offices/library-services/policies/circulation/ .

As of 2023, policies are:

  • Loan length:
    • Regular loans: 16 weeks (for all user groups; exceptions can be made at the service desk)
    • Reserve loans: 2 hours of in-library usage
  • Renewals:
    • Type: Patron-initiated (i.e., no longer automatic)
    • Regular loans:
      • Quantity: 2
      • Length: 16 weeks
      • Maximum loan length: 48 weeks
    • Reserve loans: Renewable if no other students are waiting
  • Overdue fines:
    • Regular loans: Amnesty continues
    • Reserve loans: As dictated by campus library
  • Lost loans:
    • Regular loans: Turn to lost 60 days after items are due (overdue notices to be sent 5, 10, and 15 days after due date)
    • Reserve loans: As dictated by campus library
  • Recalls:
    • If an item is recalled, the loan is shortened to 4 weeks from the date of recall
    • Recalled materials not returned on time accrue fines of $1.00 per day.
